New Zealand Immigration Visas
The Green List: Simplified Applications and Residence Pathways

The Green List streamlines the process for employers to hire migrants for specified high skilled, hard to-fill occupations, offering guaranteed residence pathways for eligible individuals. It includes a small number of highly skilled roles identified as in high demand globally and experiencing ongoing shortages in New Zealand.

  • Eligibility Requirements: Roles on the Green List have specific registration, qualification, or experience requirements, detailed on the Immigration New Zealand website.
  • Advertising Exemption: Employers are not required to provide proof of advertising for Green List occupations during the accredited employer work visa job check application.
  • Pathways to Residence: Eligible migrants working in these occupations have clear pathways to residence, either through a direct-to-residence application or after working in New Zealand, depending on the role. Their partners also have open work rights.
  • Age Limit: Both residence pathways are limited to migrants 55 years or younger, aligning with the Skilled Migrant Category requirements.
  • Additional Pathways: While the Green List facilitates attracting globally in-demand workers, other employers can still access skilled migrants through various pathways, including the Skilled Migrant Category.
Fast Tracked ‘Straight to Residence’ Pathway

Eligible migrants employed in specified occupations can come to New Zealand on a work visa from July 4 and apply for residence from September 2022. Minimum salary requirements apply, indexed to the median wage and changing over time.
